Reaction Blocks: Stirred at -80° to +200°C We have more than eighteen years of experience in developing and producing temperature- controlled magnetic stirrers. We are committed to continuous improvement which has now led to the development of the VARIOMAG reaction blocks. They allow chemical processes to be modeled elegantly on a small scale. |
A New Generation They have arrived: Our new generation of heated/cooled reaction blocks. The strength of this new generation lies in exactly defined stirring and fast heating to +200°C and - if a cryostat is used - cooling to -80°C. Our primary objective was to adapt our equipment to satisfy the extended needs now arising in new fields such as combinatorial chemistry. Parallel organic synthesis, materials research, and automation: all these applications are covered by our reaction blocks. Optional modules such as reflux cooler, thermostats, and inert gas covers further extend the range of possible applications. But our reaction blocks are not only suitable for solving problems in combinatorial chemistry: the components of this modular system can be optimally adapted to the demands of biotechnology, analytical chemistry, or metallo-organic chemistry. Whether you want to optimize processes, synthesize substances or concentrate samples - you have fond the system you need. Structure of the The new VARIOMAG reaction blocks consist of several modules. This design allows individual variation and maximizes usability, even with frequently changing requirements. Each complete system consists of:

By contrast with conventional magnetic stirrers, they do not use a motor. Variable currents flow through stationary magnetic coils and produce a rotating electromagnetic field. This magnetic drive is completely wear-free, because it does not have any moving parts such as belts, bearings, or motor components. Its hermetically sealed drive resists even aggressive liquids or gases. ![]() |
Heating/Cooling Block Fast and cost-effective heating to up to +200°C is made possible by an electrical heater integrated into the aluminum block. To cool samples, the integrated copper coil is simply kept filled with water or a cooling medium. All you have to do is to connect the block to a cold-water pipe or a pump-around cooler. If you use a powerful cryostat, you can obtain block temperatures down to -80°C. |

Reflux Cooler The powerful reflux cooler prevents the evaporation of solvents. It is easy to use and is characterized by high condensation power. The cooling block with its stainless steel frame is a low-maintenance device and ready to use in seconds: just place it on top of the reaction block, and connect it to a cold thermostat or a cold water pipe. |

Inert Gas Cover The inert gas cover prevents the formation of condensate or ice generated by cooling. In addition, inert gas rinses suppress external reactions caused by moisture or oxygen. The inert gas cover fits the block grid and is available in two versions: with silicone membranes (for pipette needles) or with individual covers that close automatically. These covers are required when a robot is used to change samples. |

Control Unit TELEMODUL 40CT Each reaction block needs a control unit. The TELEMODUL 40CT digital control unit allows even complex programs to be defined. Required parameters such as speed and temperature are controlled via an operator-friendly menu. Its RS232 computer interface allows several settings such as temperature ramps to be controlled, documented, and archived externally. Because the system is microprocessor controlled, specific customer requirements, such as integration into automated installations, can be accommodated quickly and easily. ![]() |
![]() 3 Frame Sizes ![]() |
System Options The modules for your reaction block are available in three frame sizes. There are standard versions for all three sizes, for which the number of stirring points and the bore diameters and depths are fixed. Reaction vessels of other than standard size (cf. table) are adapted to the bore size by using reduction sleeves. However, bore diameters and depths can be modified to accommodate the reaction vessels. The placement of the block bores corresponds to the standard laboratory 96-grid. Each reaction block consists of a magnetic stirrer, a heating / cooling block with an electrical heater, an integrated cooling circuit, and a control unit. If your samples do not need to be stirred, you can simply order a reaction block without the magnetic stirrer. If you only heat in connection with a thermostat, the electrical heater can be dispensed with. If you want to work with rapid changes in temperature or if you want to operate separate heating and cooling circuits, we can include two copper coils for you. |
The well-known and well-proven motorless VARIOMAG magnetic stirrer represents a completely wear-free drive design. |

Magnetic Stirring Bars KOMET The magnetic stirring bars of the KOMET series were developed specifically for more demanding applications such as stirring highly viscous media. They are made from high-energy magnetic materials and therefore transmit two to three times larger torque loads than conventional stirring bars of comparable size. KOMET 15 and KOMET 30 are particularly well suited for smaller vessels. Stirring disks for test tubes are available as well. The stirring bars cannot be demagnetized by overload or external magnetic fields. |
